Alaskan band performs at park Friday night

A “soul-shaking, infinitely charming band from the far north” will perform at the Washington Park bandshell on Friday, starting at 8 p.m.

All ages are welcome at The Super Saturated Sugar Strings’ performance. Tickets are $15 each and available in advance at www.parkcountyartscouncil.org, at the Powell and Cody chambers of commerce, the Meeteetse Visitor’s Center and at the gate.

The concert is being presented by the Park County Arts Council and co-sponsor, Dan Stevens of Edward Jones Investments.

“Join in the celebration of the last of this summer’s outdoor music events,” said Steve Schrepferman, the executive director of the arts council. “Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and a jacket if it will be cool that evening — and definitely some good dancing shoes!”

Powerful and funky, The Super Saturated Sugar Strings described their take on modern Americana as full of dense, intricate, virtuosic instrumental arrangements and shout-to-the-rafter vocals. Their lush back-beat-americana-meets-chamber-ensemble sound has stirred a large congregation of dedicated fans in Alaska. In the band’s 2018 album, All Their Many Miles, they translated the high energy stomp and swing of their live shows to the studio, and captured some of the magic that brings together Anchorage’s music community.

“There’s an element of carnival sideshow in their sometimes cinematic sound, drenched in strings and horns and bombastic ideas,” according to a bio of the band. “Nobody does anything small in Alaska, and this Alaskan band delivers a mesmerizing and powerful performance with an energetic charm that makes you want to take them home for dinner.”

The concert was made possible through generous grants from the Wyoming Arts Council and WESTAF through funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming Legislature.
