A nice even number: All-class reunion celebrates 110th year

The 110th annual all class reunion weekend is fast approaching with only one week to go ahead of the June 27-28 festivities.

“It’s just a fun weekend to celebrate the reunion and all the classmates getting together. This is a big one, 110 years,” said Gerry Wilkins, chairman of the alumni association board, adding, “It’s just a fun time for us graduates to all get together and see old friends, some of us for 60 years.”

The alumni association has worked hard to present the event and this year they will be bringing back live music to the all class reunion, Wilkins said. Due to expense they have not had live music for the past several years, but this year Bridge Wood Road, a band of Powell graduates, will play the Saturday evening venue.

This weekend will kick off Friday with a presentation at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center with the group gathering at 9:45 a.m. at 1539 Road 19. The tour will commence at 10 a.m, and participants should set aside a couple hours.

Then, the Homesteader Museum will open its doors from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., allowing Powell alumni to get a taste of Powell’s history.

In the evening hours classes will gather for class reunions, (see next week’s edition of the Tribune.)

Saturday morning is jam packed with events for alumni beginning with breakfast from the Powell Rotary serving as a tasty start at 8 a.m. at the American Legion. The breakfast will run until 10 a.m. and donations are appreciated.

Following breakfast the Homesteader Museum will be taking alumni back to school as they walk audiences through the history of Powell’s schools.

At 10 a.m. those who wish to hit the green can participate in the annual golf tournament. The Panther Open 4-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. There will be prizes and games including “closest to the pin,” “longest drive” and a putting contest as well as raffle and door prizes. Registration is $100 a plate including food and a beverage. Registration is online through the Powell Golf Club or by contacting Terry Lane at 209-564-8363.

At noon, class members are encouraged to come to a “Bring Your Own Everything” picnic at Washington Park.

Not far down the road is the annual Northwest College Foundation Trapper Classic Car Show beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Be sure to check out the hot cars on campus and the new student center.

As evening comes around all classes are invited to the Park County Fairgrounds at 6 p.m. where food will be available from the Rolling Stove Food Truck and the Powell Eagles will serve wine and beer. Bridge Wood Road will begin playing some tunes at 7 p.m., with the reunion weekend coming to a close at 10 p.m.
