This year’s Westside Elementary School marathon saw 268 students qualified for the event — an increase from last year’s 220 students.
Over the course of the school year, kindergarteners and first-grade students needed to run 12 miles to qualify. Second- and third-graders needed to tally 18 miles, while fourth- and fifth-graders had to run 25 miles.
On Wednesday, the kids ran their final laps of the marathon together.
“We also had a lot of kids who ran more than they needed to qualify,” said Luke Robertson, who teaches P.E. at Westside.
With 75.7 miles, Daniel Merritt now has the all-time best record, Robertson said.
The following are the top three students at each grade level:
• Kindergarten: Autumn Kidd (24.0), Karcher Foley (21.0), Vinson Burke (20.7)
• First-grade: Calvin Opps (56.2), Memphis Solberg (28.8), Ben Ostermiller (28.7)
• Second-grade: Melissa Merritt (50.7), Taeson Schultz (50.7), Coy Erickson (30.3)
• Third-grade: Salem Brown (58.8), Dexter Opps (58.0), Trevion Solberg (54.2)
• Fourth-grade: Gunnar Erickson (29.5), McKenzie Fields (28.8), Isaiah Woyak (28.7)
• Fifth-grade: Daniel Merritt (75.7), Clayson Checketts (59.3), Autumn Rodriguez (52.8)
