A high-speed pursuit early Thursday evening near Cody resulted in the safe apprehension of a suicidal suspect, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The pursuit began after a Wyoming State Trooper attempted to stop a silver Chevy Malibu for speeding at 81 mph in a 70 mph zone near mile post 76 on U.S. Highway 14-16-20 approximately 21 miles east of Cody. The driver of the westbound Chevy did not stop and increased speeds of the car up to 111 mph while driving in the opposite lane of traffic, according to Highway Patrol. As the 20-mile long pursuit entered the outskirts of Cody, the trooper terminated the pursuit for the safety of the public, the eluding suspect and pursuing law enforcement, according to Highway Patrol.

The suspect continued about 1 mile from where the pursuit was terminated and attempted to hide at a residence in the county. The property owners noticed the Chevy and contacted the Park County Sheriff's Office. With the assistance of deputies from the Park County Sheriff's Office, troopers were able to locate and arrest the 28-year-old female who had eluded the trooper.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined the female suspect had been suicidal and was consuming prescription medication and alcohol during the pursuit, according to Highway Patrol. A shotgun was also located in the trunk of the Malibu.

The suspect is facing charges for driving while under the influence, eluding and speeding. Additional charges may be filed at a later time.

The suspect was taken to West Park Hospital in Cody for evaluation and treatment.
