Winter farmers’ market brings people together

Perhaps a surprise gift this holiday season is the fact that the farmers’ market in Cody at the VFW Hall, 12th Street and Salsbury Avenue, continues through the winter from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. A number of vendors, who want “to keep it local,” said many in the area are unaware of the continual offerings.

Vendors from Powell, Clark and Cody have available a wide range of items. They range from baked goods, vegetable and jelly preserves, burritos, paintings, candles, meat products and year-round vegetables to humus, honey, crocheted items and jewelry.

A new addition is Cody resident Jeff Coen, a violin maker with 30 years experience. He said that he has studied with some of the top world experts and has written a 400-page book on his craft. He also offers repairs, restorations, “quality student rentals,” and other related items.

Cody residents Jean Shanor and Karen Biesemeier have low sodium and low sugar products from their greenhouse. Their preserves include various peppers and pickles, jams and jellies, apple butter and salsa.

“It’s all healthy,” noted Shanor.

Clark resident Shirley Bentley is among bakers with tasty bread, cookies, pies, cupcakes and similar goodies.

“We offer homemade, quality items,” she said, “with all natural ingredients, plus some gluten-free mixes.”
