The Powell Panther volleyball team is set to host its summer camp Monday-Wednesday.
The camp will welcome kids in the area from third-eighth grade.
Third through fifth graders will take part in the camp from 2:30-3:30 p.m. while sixth-eighth graders will compete from 4-6 p.m.
Coach Lesli Spencer said she knows the importance of getting the younger kids out to learn from the high schoolers before the start of the new season which is just under two weeks away.
“I think it’s huge for the high school team to assist with the youngsters to get the excitement in the sport,” Spencer said. “Then they come out to the games and support them — building that bond is very important.”
She said it is also important to create a connection between the individuals that will help the younger athletes stay in the program once they get into high school.
Cost for the camp will be $25 for the younger group while the older group will be $50.
Athletes are encouraged to come through the main doors located by the football field and tennis courts for the camp.
TEAM CAMP
PHS athletes got the opportunity to get in the gym last week during the Northwest College team camp, with high school athletes from around the area competing over two days on July 24-25.
The varsity team for Powell was able to place second in the varsity division, while the junior varsity team tied for third place in its division.
The Panther team finished second to a team of Northwest prospects, and Powell was able to get two strong days of competition as the season rapidly approaches.
PHS will kick off the season with practice beginning on Aug. 14, and the first matches of the season will be at the Lander Invite on Aug. 25 and 26.
