A strong first day saw the Powell Panther boys’ tennis team in striking distance at the state tournament tied for the lead, but a difficult second day left the Panthers with just one team fighting for third on the final day.
Three semifinal losses on the day along with a battle back at No. 3 doubles had the Panthers with four in the consolation semifinals, but the only team standing was the No. 1 doubles duo of Keegan Hicswa and Taeson Schultz.
That duo finished fourth, just missing out on All-State honors after a loss in the consolation finals.
On the girls’ side, the Panthers earned several wins, with the duo of Anneliese Peterson and Kyra Morrow advancing the furthest into the top eight at No. 3 doubles.
The boys’ team finished seventh in the standings, and the girls finished twelfth.
A full recap of the state tournament will be in the Oct. 3 edition of the Powell Tribune.
