Antelope Butte to host fun day on the mountain for senior citizens

Antelope Butte ski area will be hosting two Senior Days Monday, Feb. 27 and Monday, March 20. Seniors (55 and over) from both sides of the mountain are invited to enjoy the mountain views, take part in activities, socialize in the lodge, and ski, snowboard or snowshoe.

In addition to playing cards, reading, or listening to music in the lodge, there are free tuneup ski lessons at 11 a.m., and discounted lift tickets, ski/snowboard rentals and merchandise. The top floor of the lodge will be reserved for senior activities. Lunch will be available for purchase, or guests may bring their own.

In 2022, Antelope Butte, the HUB and Tongue River Valley Community Center partnered for successful “55 and Older Appreciation Days.” “A day in the mountains like this one restores my soul,” said Jan Hodson, who at 86 years young, enjoyed the entire day as well as a ride up the ski lift.

Ron Patterson took  a tuneup ski lesson and was seen skiing down the slopes the rest of the day.  He said, “I started skiing 65 years ago and a lot has changed. It has been 45 years since I last skied. It is wonderful to see  our youth have expanded opportunities that I did not grow up with. Great thanks to the HUB and all the ski assistants  who were so helpful that day.”

According to Bernie Mohatt, a senior who decided not to give up skiing in her later years, “Antelope Butte is a wonderful place to learn or brush up on skills because of excellent instructors. It is also a great place just to hang out.”

All seniors are welcome to attend these fun events. For more information contact Evelyn Childs, Antelope Butte program director, at 315-573-0095 or evelyn@antelopebuttefoundation.org.
