The American Legion Auxiliary Cherry Pie Luncheon was started in 1968 as a fundraiser to send local girls to Wyoming Girls State, and it has been an annual event in Powell ever since.
This year’s luncheon will be held at the American Legion Hall, 143 S. Clark St., from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16. Both eat-in and take-out lunches are offered.
The luncheon includes a choice of tuna, cheesy ham hashbrown, chicken and stuffing and chicken spaghetti casseroles. With each meal there will be a freshly tossed salad, a homemade dinner roll and, new this year, a choice of cherry dessert.
Desserts include: a slice of homemade cherry pie (regular or no sugar added), cherry dump cake, cherry brownie or a cherry pretzel. For those eating in, there will also be coffee, water or lemonade. Your lunch ticket enters you to win door prizes. Tickets are $10 per person. Cash, check or credit card payment accepted. Donations are welcome.
Get your ticket in advance from an Auxiliary member, call-in your take-out order at 307-254-1357, or just stop by. Proceeds support Wyoming Girls State delegates and veterans’ affairs.
Girls State is a week-long session in Cheyenne that helps girls learn leadership and social skills with an emphasis on government. It is open to girls who will be completing their junior year of high school, including those who are home schooled.
