Last weekend, I had the privilege of helping with the Kicking Cancer for Pazlee Rose Sheeley fundraiser. There was a lot of planning, some late nights organizing and lots of anticipation leading up to the event. Our end result: a fun and successful evening for Pazlee’s cause.
One thing I love about this community is that when someone is hurting, everyone comes together to meet the need, and then some. You can see it online, the student organizations, church groups and just in your basic interactions with people everyday. This love was fully showcased to Pazlee and her family at the benefit Saturday night.
Food was donated to feed the masses, a substantial amount of items were donated for the live and silent auctions, musicians close to Pazlee’s family played all through the night and we had so many volunteers for setting up and tearing down — I think we could have set a record with how fast we had everything up and going the morning of the event.
It’s hard to describe the feeling when you see people pouring through the front doors of the building, all coming to show their support for someone they might not even really know. I expected around 150 people to show up, but I think there were upwards of 300, leading us to set up extra tables just to fit people in.
Roughly $51,000 was raised for Pazlee and her family, and I could not be happier or more grateful for everyone who showed up and helped make a difference in this family’s life. My heart is so full and I am proud to call myself a member of this community.
Thank you to everyone who put their time in to help get this event up and going, and thank you to those who donated food for the dinner, or items for auction. And if you came and spent the evening with us, thank you for coming and showing this family your love and support.
Pazlee’s journey fighting this cancer is not over. If you would like to donate to Pazlee and her family as they navigate this difficult time, there is a bank account set up at Big Horn Federal, where all proceeds go directly to the family.
Coming up next month is the Building Hope for Heny benefit at the Powell Fairgrounds on April 12. JW Heny is fighting an aggressive brain tumor and will need all of our support.
