Betty Ruth (Nelson) Cantrell

(Dec. 21, 1924 - April 22, 2012)Betty Cantrell died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Powell Valley Care Center after a brief illness. She was 87.Betty was born in Lance Creek, Wyo., on a dry land farm where she spent her childhood.  She had four sisters and five brothers, as well as two siblings who died in infancy. 

Betty attended stenographer school in Denver before marrying her first husband, Darryl Taylor. They lived in a number of locations in Wyoming and Montana while he worked the oil fields and she worked as secretary, bookkeeper, waitress and cook. She remarried Herschel Cantrell in Big Piney where she lived for many years while Herschel worked the oil rigs.

Betty moved to Powell from Big Piney after the death of her second husband. She resided at the care center for the last 16 months after breaking an ankle in her apartment.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Herschel; son Dana Clark Taylor; two sisters, Olga and Laurine; and four brothers, Elmer, Lester, Melvin, and Fred. 

She is survived by her son, Russell Taylor of Powell; sisters Romona of New Jersey, Violet of Denver, Colo.; brother Linden of Torrington; six grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted by the family in Big Piney. Donations can be made to the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell in her memory.
