(Sept. 20, 1936 - Aug. 1, 2011)

Ann Lohof died on the morning of Aug. 1, 2011, following a final bout of cancer, a disease she lived with for many years.

Born Frances Ann Dyrdahl, Sept. 20, 1936 in Cut Bank, Mont., Ann was the eldest child of three born to Allen and Frances Dyrdahl. Ann grew up in Cut Bank and graduated from Cut Bank High School in 1955, going on to attend business school in Great Falls, Mont.

On July 16, 1960, she married Dustin Bede Lohof and they had three children. In the fall of 1970 the family left northern Montana and moved to Powell, where Ann began working as a waitress at the Skyline Café. A few months later she started working for the City of Powell and remained there for 31 years. For a few of those years, to help make ends meet, she also worked part-time at Hansel and Gretel’s. Following her retirement, Ann volunteered at the Powell Valley Hospital, working the information desk and in the gift shop.

Ann was an avid bowler, and was a member of a number of bowling leagues throughout her life. She was an active member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, baking and making sure family and visitors had eaten enough. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, watching them grow and seeing their accomplishments.

She will be greatly missed, for her heart was not her own. She gave it away, piece by piece, chunk by chunk; always searching for a way to help, a way to make things better, a way to change what was and never quite sure that her efforts were enough. She lived her life for others and fought the guilty tinges when she decided to do something for herself. She stayed out of the spotlight being more comfortable backstage, but her heart and her convictions were always in the thick of things and her prayers helped carry those she lifted before God.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Carol Greinstiner, her husband, Dustin and son, James.

She leaves behind her brother, Lee Dyrdahl of Kalispell, Mont., her children Judy Calvert of Elko, Nev. and Joseph (Roseanna) Lohof of Absarokee, Mont.; 10 grandchildren – April, Steven, Adam, Mandy, Kelly, Cameo, Carley, Christine, Charlie and CaryAnn.; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass services will be held Saturday Aug. 6, in Powell at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, 115 E 3rd St. at 10 a.m. A Vigil service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the church.

Viewing times will be Friday from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.thompsonfuneral.net or to P.O. Box 807 Powell, WY, 82435.
