Cecilio Telesforo Segura Sr. died Thursday, April 7 in Orange City, Fla. He was 77.
Cecilio Sr. was born on Nov. 22, 1933 in Mission, Texas, to Telesfo and Sabina Segura. He attended Catholic School in McAllen, Texas, joined the Army at age 18 and fought in the Korean War. He moved to Powell permanently after the war. He courted and married Mary Jesse Ramirez, and together they had three children, Cecil Jr., Diana and Irene.
Cecilio farmed for many years in the Willwood area for Knutson Farms. He also worked for Northwest College as a groundskeeper and bus driver. He enjoyed driving all over the States and getting to know all of the kids attending NWC.
He was also known to play music on the weekends around the Big Horn Basin area. He often played with a group called Pop Tops. He was very talented and could play guitar, electric guitar and the drums. Cecilio enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his motorcycle and taking his family to Yellowstone National Park. His true hobbies in his later years were his grandchildren. His hobbies changed to attending concerts and games and just loving being a grandpa.
Cecilio was preceded in death by his mother Sabina, his wife Mary, and granddaughter Tiffany Miller.
He is survived by his children Cecil Jr. (Jenny) Segura of Powell, Diana (John) Beach of Maricopa, Ariz., and Irene (Todd) Alt of Casper. He leaves behind four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial for Cecilio will be held at the American Legion in Powell Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be provided; please bring a hot dish or dessert to share.
