Rex G. Peters died at his daughter’s home in Powell on Jan. 21, 2010.

Rex was born in Alva, Okla. on Dec. 21, 1914, to Effie and Charles Peters.

His family moved to Montana when he was a baby, and he lived in the Billings and Lockwood areas until he graduated from high school.

Rex married Betty Swenson on July 31, 1938 in Billings. They lived in Columbus, Mont., for five years. They then moved to Pavilion, Wyo., where he owned a grocery store.

He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II, returning to Riverton after the war ended. Rex and Betty lived in Riverton until 1990, when they moved to Powell to be close to their daughter. His stories were a source of entertainment at all the family get-togethers, and his wit and humor will be missed.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joyce Linstrum and Connie Morris.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty; daughter Donna Doornbos (Alvin) of Powell; three grandchildren, Sheri Core (Jim) of Boise, Idaho, Nancy Core  (Steve) of Green River, and Rex Doornbos  (Sarah) of Alpine; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers Kenneth of Superior, Mont., and Norman of Billings; many nieces and nephews; brother in-law Graham Baker of Libby, Mont.; and sister-in-law Elaine Steele of Billings.

Cremation has taken place and, as he requested, a private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
