Mabel (Mix) Darrah died on April 7, 2009 at the Powell Valley Care Center.
Mabel was born to George and Emma (Harper) Mix on Oct. 25, 1915 in Blackfoot, Idaho, where her family was in transit in a covered wagon, following a brief tenure in California, to a wheat farm in Montana.
The family lived in many places in the Montana and Wyoming area before settling in Cody where sawmilling became their way of life through World War II. Mabel married Harrison (Hank) Darrah, of Cody, on March 29, 1937. Hank’s occupation as a carpenter took them across many states until Hank was drafted. When he returned from the war, they called Cody home for many more years.
Mabel had since been a long-time resident of Powell. She enjoyed many kinds of crafts and growing things in and out of the house. She loved fishing from her early years and enjoyed being in the mountains and outdoors. Many family activities were centered around these things. Mabel had many titles in her life, but her favorite was “Granny”. Mabel’s greatest love was her family and she enjoyed a special relationship with each individual grandchild and great-grandchild. Mabel had many dear friends that were like family to her.
Survivors include her children Joseph E. Darrah (Tracy) ; Sandra Reynolds (Quin); and Linda Lohrenz (Robert), all of Powell; sisters Lorena Bailey of Moses Lake, Wash. and Gertrude Smith of Pavillion; eleven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and a son, Jack Darrah.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Powell on Tuesday, April 14 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cody at 12:15 p.m.
