Jane D. (Clark) Northrup

Jane D. (Clark) Northrup died Friday, Dec. 5 at Powell Valley Care Center. She was 91.

She was born July 12, 1917, to Mary D. and Lyman Clark in Los Angeles, Calif.  She grew up in and around various oil patches in California and Wyoming while her father was with Union Oil Co. She attended the University of Wyoming, graduating Phi Kappa Phi with a degree in Mathematics in 1940. The 1950’s and 1960’s found her in Lovell as the accountant for Ward Myers’ Chevrolet dealership.

While in Lovell, Jane served as the first female  town council member and made a trip to Washington, D.C. to accept an award for the Town of Lovell. Jane was always an active member of the Eastern Star organization and spearheaded the creation of the Job’s Daughters Bethel #29 in Lovell.

Jane and L. Donald Northrup were married  Dec. 22, 1966. Jane took to farming life with gusto and especially enjoyed attending legislative sessions in Cheyenne with her husband, who served in the Wyoming Legislature as a Senator and in the House of Representatives for a total of 24 years.

Jane was a member of the United Methodist Church in Powell, the Willwood Club, P.E.O., Order of  Eastern Star and Powell Fine Arts Club.

Survivors include two nieces, Bobby Purcell and Marlene Wogsland (Jim); stepdaughters, Mary Ann Northrup of Powell and Juletta Corbin (Bob) of Cody; stepgrandsons, William Northrup (Louise), David Northrup (Astrid), Donald (Cynthia) Northrup, and Andrew Corbin (Amy); stepgranddaughter, Kathryn Evans (Tim); and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, L. Donald Northrup (1997);  her stepson, Laness Northrup (2005); and her brother, Bill Clark (1975).

Funeral services will be today (Tuesday, Dec. 9) at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Powell. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.
