Funeral services were held Friday, March 10 at Thompson Funeral Home in Powell for Darryl James Lewis, 61, who died Monday, March 6 in Rapid City Regional Hospital in South Dakota.

Father Pete Johnson of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church officiated at services.

He was born June 13, 1944, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Lonnie Lewis and Bertille Coleman Lewis. He earned a high school diploma at Pacific High School.

He married Lynette Benson in California on Aug. 9, 1968, and they have lived in Powell for the past 23 years. He was owner-operator of his own long haul truck and received a 1 million-mile ring and has driven over 5 million miles with no accidents.

He was a member of the Catholic Church.

His outdoor enjoyments included camping, fishing and snowmobiling.

His family will remember him as one of the most generous souls — always there to help and depend upon as a true head of the household. He changed the lives of so many people he touched.

Survivors include his wife Lynette of Powell; two sons, Darryl Lewis, Jr. of Littlefield, Texas and Brian Lewis of Powell; four daughters, Genette Ortega of Ocala, Fla., Amy Lewis and Valerie Wenecki, both of Powell, and Mary Myers of Idaho; a sister, Sandra Broussard of Powell; and 21 grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City, S.D., and Thompson Funeral Home of Powell.
