A former Powell resident, Dwayne Virgil Trees, died Wednesday, March 3 at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin. He was 94.
Mr. Trees has been a resident of the center at Basin since 1998.
Born in Iowa, he was 3 years old when he moved with his parents to a homestead at Wibaux, Mont. The family moved to Boyd, Mont., and he graduated from high school in Joliet, Mont.
He married Alcidene Kenyon in November 1932. They had three sons, Gene, Bill and Larry. A niece, Ellen Kenyon, lived with the family for 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and served for about three years. After the war, he worked for the Amoco Refinery in Greybull until it closed. He then started his own furnace and L.P. gas business in Greybull. After about four years, he sold his business to Pure Gas Service Co. of Worland, but was still involved with the company as manager. In 1970, he was transferred to Powell, and in 1972, he retired from the business.
He and his wife traveled extensively in retirement. They moved to Riverton in 1989 and then to Basin in 1998.
Survivors include his wife Alcidene Trees of Basin; one son, Bill Trees of Kinnear; one brother, Donald Trees of Reedpoint, Mont.; two grandsons and four great-granddaughters.
Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at the Joliet, Mont., Cemetery, with Pastor Richard Trees officiating. Burial will follow.
