Centenarian Bertha (Bert) Wiley, 100, died Wednesday, July 9 in the Powell Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 28, 1902, in Alexandria, Nebr., where she completed her high school education. She attended Kearney State in Nebraska and taught school in Thayer and Fillmore Counties in Nebraska.
She married Albert Wiley in 1924. They lived in Chadron, Nebr., then moved to Canon City, Colo., where their son, Frank, was born. They came to Powell in 1933 where she and a partner operated a beauty salon until moving to Billings, Mont., in 1941. They remained there until her husband retired, then moved back to Powell for the rest of her life.
She loved all sports and card games, especially bowling, baseball, fishing and duplicate bridge. She was elected to the Billings Bowling Hall of Fame and the Montana Bowling Hall of Fame at Billings and was a bowling faithful in Powell.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Bette Wiley, of Laurel, Mont.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Cheri and Herm Streck of Laurel, Kenneth Wiley of Fromberg, Mont., and Janine and Richard Westrick of Fairbanks, Alas.; five great-grandchildren, Chad, Joey, Lance, Michelle and Natalie; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972 and her son, Frank, in 1994.
