(Oct. 9, 1955 - Sept. 28, 2010)Christy Elizabeth Davis, 54, died Tuesday, Sept. 28 of complications from ovarian cancer.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1955 in Seaside, Ore. She grew up in Seaside, Enterprise, Rainier, Beaverton and Sweet Home, Ore., graduating from Sweet Home High School in 1973.

Davis graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Western Oregon College, then called Oregon College of Education, in Monmouth in 1979. She completed a master's degree in education at the University of Oregon in 1988.

She married Dennis Davis on March 31, 1979 in Hood River, Ore.

She began her teaching career at Dean Morgan Junior High School in Casper in 1979. She worked at the then Special Touch Preschool in Powell in 1980. She began teaching at Powell Middle School in 1981 as a learning disabilities specialist. She started teaching in a third-fourth grade loop at Southside Elementary in 1999. She continued teaching third grade and taught first grade during the 2009-2010 academic year at Southside.

In addition to teaching, her passions included hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, gardening, reading, writing and playing the dulcimer as well as spending time in Yellowstone National Park and at her cabin in Crandall.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Powell; her parents Roy and Beverly Cederstam of Hood River, Ore.; her brother Eric Cederstam of Hood River and his companion Tammy Hall and niece Kendall Cederstam; sister Joan (Cederstam) Jones of Mist, Ore., and her husband Thomas Jones, nephews Reed, Brett, Wyatt and Garrett Jones; and sister-in-law Deanna (Davis) Hansen and her husband Mike Hansen of Burley, Idaho.

A memorial service is planned at St. John's Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those wishing to honor Christy to consider donations in her name to Powell Valley Hospice, Heart Mountain Volunteer Medical Clinic or a fund in her name at Northwest College.
