(July 14, 1924 - Sept. 23, 2010)Edwin Rudolph Lohrenz, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at the Northfield Hospital in Northfield, Minn.
He was born July 14, 1924 in Kane, Wyo., to Conrad and Katherine (Miller) Lohrenz, immigrants from Germany. He married Mary Joan Henry in September 1959 and they later divorced. They raised three children, son Bill (Chris) Lohrenz of Laurel, Mont., daughter Vicki (Lee) Dilley of Northfield, Minn., anddaughter Michelle (Kraig) Kerns of Rapid City, S.D.
Ed farmed in the Big Horn Basin for many years before transitioning into road construction and carpentry. He worked with construction crews to build many of the current bridges and infrastructure in Yellowstone National Park and around Montana.
He was a member of the Montana Carpenters Union.
He enjoyed painting with acrylics, especially historical figures and wildlife. He had a great interest in the history of the West.
He wrote a family history book in his early 70s. He was quick witted up until the very end and was always up to date on current events. He enjoyed following high school sports.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his three children; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Steven (Fiona) Lohrenz and son Draoi of Ireland, Mike (Amy) Lohrenz and daughter Madilyn of North Carolina, Tim (Cara) Lohrenz of Billings, Jamie Lohrenz of Billings, Tyler (Geri) McKellar and daughter September of Streetsboro, Ohio, Tyreese Lohrenz of Laurel, Mont., Scott Kerns of Alexandria, Va., Adam Kerns of Virginia Beach, Va., Riana Dilley of Minneapolis, Minn., and Evan Dilley of Northfield, Minn.
Ed is also survived by his younger brother Robert Lohrenz, sister Glorianne Frame, and sister-in-law Dorothy (Harvey) Lohrenz, all of Powell. Ed had many nieces and nephews and all were very special to him.
Services were held at the Three Links Care Center Chapel in Northfield, Minn., where Ed had been living for the past 2 1/2years.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
