A double-fatal crash on U.S. Highway 287 between Muddy Gap and Rawlins Friday afternoon has closed a section of the road.

A pair of semis collided head-on at 12:47 p.m., according to Cody Beers, Wyoming Department of Transportation public involvement specialist.

One of the vehicles was carrying oil, Beers said, and there was an explosion and fire.

The section of US 287 between Muddy Gap and Rawlins is closed for an indefinite period, Beers said. The scene of the crash is 28.6 miles north of Rawlins near Lamont. Lamont is about 250 miles south of Powell.
