A fire burning near the Beartooth Highway south of Red Lodge, Mont., has rerouted the Cycle Greater Yellowstone bicycle tour.
The tour was scheduled to come through Powell Friday morning but will instead ride along South Fork Road, which wasn't on the event's original route.
Cycle Greater Yellowstone's 700-plus riders will spend a second night in Cody on Friday and then ride through Powell, with a pit stop at Washington Park, Saturday morning on their way to Red Lodge.
Saturday will mark the final ride of seven-day tour. The day was originally going to feature a ride up the Beartooth Pass and back, but the Rock Creek Fire has been burning along the highway, about five miles south of Red Lodge.
The fire caused officials to close the Beartooth Highway on Tuesday and Wednesday. The scenic drive reopened at 2 p.m. Thursday, though drivers have been asked to use extra caution and to pass through the area without stopping.
