Playing four games over two days the Powell Pioneers ‘C’ team battled against several teams from around the state, but came up short in its home tournament.
Powell started out in a matchup against Lovell, battling in a close game that saw the Pioneers fall 5-3 against the Mustangs.
Powell led 1-0 in the second before Lovell scored two in the third and one in the fourth to make it 3-1.
Powell tied it with two in the fifth before Lovell got the winning runs in the top of the sixth.
The Pioneers outhit the Mustangs 6-4 but committed three errors compared to none for Lovell.
Carter Fauskee went 3-4 at the plate and scored, while Dakota Erickson had two RBIs and Garrett Davis had the other RBI for the Pioneers.
Friday evening the Pioneers battled against Green River, where a high scoring game ensued.
Green River scored three in the top of the first, before Powell answered with four in the bottom half and two in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 lead.
The Knights scored nine combined runs in the top of the third and fourth to regain the lead at 12-6, as Powell attempted a comeback.
Powell scored two in the bottom of the fourth, but Green River added one in the top of the fifth to make it 13-8.
The Pioneers scored three more in the bottom of the fifth, but the comeback fell short due to the time limit being reached as Powell lost 13-11.
Powell finished with 11 hits to five for the Knights, but errors were the Pioneers undoing as they committed eight to three for Green River.
Pratt Wambeke went 4-4 at the plate with three RBIs, Owen Jones went 1-2 with two RBIs and Gabe McMillin went 1-1 with two RBIs.
Ryder Stewart, Karzten Carter and Erickson each had an RBI.
Saturday morning the Pioneers matched up with the Cody Cubs, where another high scoring game saw both teams score in every inning.
Cody led 4-2 after the first, and quickly expanded the lead to 7-3 after the second.
The Cubs continued to outscore the Pioneers every inning, holding leads of 12-7 and a final of 17-10 due to time limit at the end of the fourth.
Christian Love went 2-2 with two RBIs, while Fauskee was the other multi-RBI Pioneer going 1-2 with two RBIs.
Erickson, Carter and Cael Kysar each drove in a run for the Pioneers.
Cody finished with the hits advantage at 9-6, as Powell committed more errors 4-2 than the Cubs.
After the results, Powell matched up with Cody once again on Saturday afternoon.
Powell led early, going up 1-0 after the top of the first.
That was the only lead of the day, as Cody scored six in the bottom of the second, and quickly expanded it after that.
Cody led 8-2 after the third, 11-3 after the fourth and finished the contest with a 12-3 victory over the Pioneers.
Erickson went 3-3 with an RBI, while Fauskee and Love recorded the other RBIs for the Pioneers.
Cody outhit the Pioneers 10-8, while Powell committed 10 errors compared to two for the Cubs.
That was the fourth of six matchups against the Cubs in seven days for the Pioneers, as Powell failed to find wins against the Cubs in conference as well.
The Pioneers ‘C’ team is currently 3-12-1 and will play Riverton on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. in Powell before playing Worland at home next Wednesday night at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
