The Wyoming Bean Commission is scheduled to meet in Powell on Feb. 6-7 at the Park County Fairgrounds.

The meeting will begin Thursday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. and run until about 4 p.m. During the first day, the bean commission will hear updates on its budget, lobbying efforts and on “Dry Bean Revenue Protection” insurance in Wyoming. Along with this, commission members will hear 2019 research presentations, discuss non-research projects/funding, and determine total funding for 2020 research projects.

On Friday, Feb. 7, the meeting continues at 8 a.m., with the board discussing a U.S. Dry Bean Council (USDBC) fly-in trip to Washington, D.C., the Rocky Mountain Bean Dealers Association annual meeting, the 2021 USDBC meeting/BeanCon21, commission promotions and other business. There will be an opportunity for public comment at the end of the meeting.

The members of the Wyoming Bean Commission are Beau Fulton (grower) of Park County, Pascual Aguilar (grower) of Big Horn County, Cortney Allen (handler) of Big Horn County, Jeffery Chapman (handler) of Goshen County, Jerrod Lind (grower) of Platte County, Wayne Hort (grower) of Goshen County,  and Dale Heggem (ex-officio member from the Wyoming Department of Agriculture).

The Wyoming Bean Commission is funded through assessments collected on dry bean sales and is housed within the state Department of Agriculture. The commission may conduct or contract scientific research, disseminate information on dry edible beans based on research, study state and federal legislation with respect to matters concerning the dry edible bean industry, appoint advisory groups, make grants to research agencies for financing special or emergency studies, and a variety of other activates.
