Wayne Ray Burnett was born on Jan. 18, 1950, to Ray and Margaret (Jensen) Burnett in Rapid City, South Dakota. He passed away at his home in Lovell on June 12, 2019, after a short battle with lung cancer at the age of 69.

Wayne attended 12 years of school in Faith. After his dad died in 1967, Wayne operated the family ranch east of Faith with his mother, until they sold it in 1976. He then operated heavy equipment laying water, gas and cable lines in Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nevada and Nebraska. He then returned to Faith in 1987, and started Burnett Spray Service, working with Perkins County spraying noxious weeds for area ranchers and farmers for 15 years. He also served on the Perkins County Weed Board.

He married Debbie Hanten Brakke on Oct. 3, 1997, in Cody, where he gained two stepdaughters and a stepson.

In 2002, he sold the spray business and moved to Powell, where they owned and operated a mobile home park. After 10 years there, they sold the mobile home park and retired to Bridger, Montana, and then Lovell.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, welding and making things. He very much loved to go for drives in the mountains and was a very big history buff. But he really loved sitting with friends and family for reminiscing about the good old days. Wayne always had a very special place in his heart for all of his four-legged buddies.

Grateful for having shared in Wayne’s life are his wife Debbie of Lovell; stepdaughters Carrie (Tyler) Fisher of Bison, South Dakota, and Annie (Doug) Simons of Enning, South Dakota; stepson Jim (Lindsey Johnson) Brakke of Fargo, North Dakota; seven step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandson; uncles Eldon (Mary Jean) Jensen of Lemmon, South Dakota, and Volmer (Vonda) Jensen of Chandler, Arizona; aunt Marie (Dale) Ingalls, Rapid City, South Dakota; and many cousins and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father Ray (1967), mother Margaret (1997), brother Larry (1979), cousin Duane Ingalls (1999) and a step-grandson Macoy Collins (2014).
