Folks who have chosen to move to or have stayed in Powell do so for many reasons. First and foremost, I think, is the sense of community spirit. There is the feeling that “we take care of each other” and that comes through over and over again.
The Backpack Blessings of Powell program is one place where your donations do just that. The program provides six weekend meals for Powell elementary students who need just a little more food during the school year.
The annual pie sale fundraiser held each year will be, again, “a Virtual Pie Sale.” The suggestions for donating are: donate the cost of making a pie, donate the price you would pay to buy a pie or make a donation in someone’s name as a Christmas gift. It costs about $7.50 for each child per weekend. The program is taking care of about 90 students, and that number is expected to increase.
Backpack Blessings survives on donations and grants alone. Monies donated purchase the food from local sources to the extent possible. The board of directors is grateful for the help we get in purchasing all the food. This is a 501(c)(3) program, and donations may be tax deductible.
To our volunteers who faithfully pack the food bags each week, thank you for your dedication to the Backpack Blessings program.
So, to all the individuals, churches, and businesses who donate money, we are sincerely grateful. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and that you be blessed for all the months to come. Donations can be mailed to: Backpack Blessings, P.O. Box 1, Powell, WY 82435.
