Two youth organizations to hold first pumpkin patch fundraiser

Posted

As Halloween festivities begin to blow in with the fall breeze, a pumpkin patch will appear at the lot next to Yellowstone Motors.

Starting Oct. 5 and ending on Halloween, the Powell Pumpkin Patch fundraiser will be selling pumpkins to raise money for Trail Life USA and Royal Family Kids Camp.

Both organizations are faith based and work with local youth according to David Light, who is troopmaster for Trail Life USA in the area and helps with Royal Family Kids Camp.

Trail Life USA is an outdoor scouting organization. Royal Family Kids Camp is a summer camp for children of “abuse, abandonment and neglect,” according to the New Life Church website. New Life Church is the sponsor for the Powell area camp.

“A lot of it is just to help build a strong community going forward and to give these kids hope,” Light said of the organizations.

He said the pumpkins are being sourced through Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers, which has been used by other Trail Life chapters.

“They’re just an independent company and all they do are fundraisers for these churches and organizations,” Light said.

Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers does not charge upfront fees; the organization only charges fees for pumpkins sold starting at 25% of the sales price for small decorative pumpkins all the way up to 75% percent of the sales price.

The initial order of pumpkins is 1,200, including pumpkins of nine different varieties, such as pumpkins for carving, painting and baking.

Light said while these fees seem high, Pumpkin Patch Fundraisers is not charging for transportation and is taking the risk that pumpkins may not be sold or may go bad. Trail Life USA and Royal Family Kids camp did not have to pay anything for the pumpkins, so the fundraiser will still make a profit. All of the profit goes to the local organizations.

The pumpkin patch will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from noon-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday there will be food and beverages including hamburgers, hotdogs and coffee.
