Trapper Bonanza scrambles to rainy finish

Northwest College jackets were a gift to all players in Saturday’s Trapper Bonanza golf tournament. Was that an omen of things to come?

Before the day was over, most everyone had the new jackets in use, as rain and wind took over the closing nine holes at the Powell Golf Club.

Nineteen teams participated in the scramble format play, a fundraiser for Trapper athletics put on by the NWC Foundation. Three teams shared the winners’ purse.

The foursome of John Wetzel, Rick Norberg, Greg Toland and Claire Wetzel claimed the $500 first prize with a net score of 54.3 strokes; the net score reflected a combination of gross score, less player handicap.

The runner-up team of Jake Ivanoff, Ty Pedersen, John Krebes and  AJ Spence checked in with a net score of 54.7, good for second place and $300. They also took home $500 in the 307 Real Estate Trapper Challenge as the only team to score a birdie four on Hole No. 9, with each golfer contributing a shot in a predetermined order of play.

In third place with a net stroke total score of 55.3 was the foursome of Toby Bonner, Tanya Bonner, Dave Bonner and Brad Bonner. Third place paid $140.
