WHEATLAND (WNE) — More than 800 grams of methamphetamine was discovered in a slow-moving vehicle pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy on the Chugwater service road, according to a Platte County Sheriff’s Office release issued last week.
The driver, Wade Roy Schear, was on a Department of Criminal Investigation watch list, court records indicate.
The vehicle was emitting smoke from the exhaust pipe due to mechanical issues. After the sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle, an open-air K9 search resulted in an alert to the presence of a controlled substance.
A subsequent search revealed 871 grams of methamphetamine, 1 ounce of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and $811 cash rolled in a rubber band.
The individual was taken to Platte County Detention Center and later released on a $75,000 bond.
DCI is the investigating agency. Schear’s case has been bound over to Eighth Judicial District Court, where he is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a felony punishable by a maximum 20 years in jail, $25,000 fine or both; and one count of knowingly or intentionally possessing controlled substance, specifically 73 grams of crystal form methamphetamines, a felony punishable by a maximum seven years in jail, $15,000 fine or both.
