Toby Ronald Rathie, Jr., amazing father, brother, papa and great papa passed away on April 27, 2023 at the age of 82 with his daughter and loving family at his side.

Toby was born Feb. 6, 1941 in Butte, Montana to Tobjorn Haakon Rathie and Leona Mary Engler. He was the eighth of 12 children. He attended Billing Catholic Schools and graduated from Billings Central High. As a kid he sold donuts door to door and also worked in restaurants in Billings as a dishwasher and busboy.

After graduation he joined the Navy. He served from 1960-1966 as an aviation electrician on the flight deck of the USS Kitty Hawk. In 1970, while working as a lineman for REA in western Montana he met the love of his life, Bonnie D. Patterson. On June 26, 1971 they were married. With this union he gained two children, Debbie and Rich. In 1976 they welcomed Brandy.

Soon after the family moved to Thermopolis where Toby worked for TRW Pump Service. In 1979 the family moved to Powell where Toby worked for various oil field companies. He also worked in the Nye Mine in Montana. At the time of his passing he was working for O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.

Toby loved being with his family, fishing, camping and working in his yard. He also loved his Denver Broncos. He will be deeply missed by so many people. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, his parents, his in-laws, daughter Debbie, brothers Ray, Larry Sr., Leonard, brothers-in-law Bosco and Rick Sr., sisters Le Vonne, Margie, Lonna, daughter-in-law Stephanie and grandson-in-law Jacob Adey.

He is survived by his daughter Brandy, of Powell; son Rich, of Hamilton, Montana; friend who was a daughter Holly Perry of Corvallis, Montana; brothers Bernard (Lynn) and Dennis; sisters Tizzy, Marlene and Toni; grandchildren Victoria (Brie), Matthew (Danielle), Skye (Chris), Chase, Colton and Rayona; great grandchildren Kaiden, Karsen, Kamryn, Adey, Alexandria, Jace, Wyatt, Madison, Cortana, Micaria and Kage; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Cremation has taken place and a veterans burial is planned at Yellowstone National Cemetery on June 1 in Laurel, Montana at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place in Powell on June 3. Watch Facebook for info.
