On Tuesday evening, a wildfire was reported in the northern portion of the Bighorn National Forest.
The Lick Creek fire is located approximately 1 mile down Forest Trail 076, accessed by Forest Road 147, off of the Dayton Gulch Road (Forest Road 15). As of Wednesay morning, the fire was about 4 acres in size, burning in heavy timber fuels.
Approximately 15 firefighters using All Terrain Vehicles and one helicopter from the Wyoming State Forestry arrived on the fire Wednesday morning to begin suppression actions of fireline construction and water drops. An additional 10 firefighters have been ordered to help secure the fire, Bighorn forest officials said.
“Weather will remain hot and dry, and while the fire danger indexes are currently moderate, the fire has potential to grow with passing thunderstorm winds that could hit the fire,” forest officials said in a release. “The public is encouraged to remain out of the fire area, and if you have trailers in the vicinity it is recommended you move them in case the fire should grow.”
