Small spring golf squad tees off in Worland

The weather finally cooperated for the four-man Powell Panther golf team to tee off its spring season, heading down to Worland on Friday, April 14, to get started.

“With only a few practices under our belt due to weather and course delays we only took four players to Worland for the tournament,” coach Troy Hildebrand said. “No official places or team scores were kept but it was nice to get back on the course in a tournament setting.”

Leading the way for the Panthers was Jackson Hill, who picked up where he ended last fall and completed his round with an 89.

“He has improved tremendously in the past year and I am really looking forward to where he ends up by next August,” Hildebrand said.

Second up for the Panthers was Trey Scott, who finished with a 92.

Hildebrand said he couldn’t make any putts to squeeze his round down into the 80s, but did a great job of avoiding big numbers throughout the day which sets him up to improve moving forward.

Third up for the Panthers was Seth Siebert, who teed off his final month as a Panther with a 96.

“He has been a very nice player for us over the past four years and I appreciate having him along to help with some of the newer players,” Hildebrand said.

Rounding out the squad for Powell was Andrew Jones, who finished with a 102 on the day.

Hildebrand said that Jones had four holes late in the round that cost him a score in the low to mid 90s, but is hitting the ball as well as he has in his entire career and Hildebrand is excited to see where a great spring could lead him in the fall.

Three-time defending state champion Parker Paxton from Riverton was the only competitor in the field to finish under 80, finishing with a 68 on the day to run away with the individual title.

Hildebrand said the Panthers are planning to head to Thermopolis on Friday depending on the weather forecast.
