Signs up as work, hirings continue at new Albertsons

Albertsons is hiring for its new store in Powell as construction to prepare the store for opening continues, with signs for the store and Starbucks up on the building and on a freestanding sign alongside the road.

“Albertsons is very excited to be a part of the Powell community and to help support our neighbors and local organizations, said Kathy Holland, communications and public relations spokesperson for Albertsons.

Hirings are also well underway for retail clerk and management positions.

The store, replacing the former Shopko on U.S. Highway 14A, is in the midst of hiring, having held three days of a hiring fair last week with three more to go, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 6-8 at the Northwest College CTD Classroom.

Construction is ongoing but a completion date remains up in the air.

“Currently our construction team is working through details with various vendors and suppliers on equipment needs for the new store,” Holland said. “That said, we do not yet have a confirmed completion date.”

Albertsons has said that its grocery store will include a liquor department, a pharmacy and a Starbucks coffee shop.

The roughly 29,000 square foot building on Powell’s west side was formerly a Shopko store, but the chain went bankrupt and closed in June 2019. Albertsons purchased the facility in January 2020 from a private investment firm that bought up 78 Shopko properties amid the bankruptcy.
