Legionnaires across Wyoming have a new state commander.
Mike Cooke of Rock Springs was elected by unanimous ballot at the 101st American Legion State Convention in June.
Cooke recently served as vice-commander and membership chairman. He now will lead the nearly 6,000 war-time veterans who are members of the Legion in Wyoming.
“As an organization, we must not forget the sacrifices and accomplishments of our predecessors, yet continue to ensure our future generations of veterans and their families are provided for,” Cooke said. “As legionnaires, we need to learn from our past failures and accomplishments in order to better prepare ourselves for the next 100 years!”
A Rock Springs resident since 1979, Cooke works as a network security analyst for Sweetwater County. As commander of the American Legion, he will receive no pay or stipend, as it’s a volunteer position.
