Record year for Cody airport

A record number of people — 81,966 passengers — caught flights in and out of Yellowstone Regional Airport in 2019.

The year got off to a slow start, with passenger numbers down 14 percent from 2018 over the first five months. However, a strong finish made 2019 the best year on record, Yellowstone Regional Airport officials announced last week.

Bob Hooper, the director of the Cody airport, attributed the boost “to the commitment of our airline partners by providing improved service.”

“United Airlines enhanced service to both Denver and Chicago while SkyWest/Delta Connection provided improved service to Salt Lake City, making the airport a top choice for both local and vacation travelers destined for Yellowstone National Park,” Hooper said in a news release.

He also thanked local residents and businesses for their support of the facility.

“The future is unlimited for YRA,” Hooper said, “as the airport expects another great year in 2020.”

Among Wyoming’s six commercial airports, Cody ranks as the third-busiest, behind Jackson and Casper.
