Dear Editor:

I recently read an article in another news outlet regarding the race for House District 25. In the article David Northrup takes aim against everyone besides himself. He is critical of right-wing “extremists,” TEA party types he calls them. Yet, he is running with an (R) after his name and claims to be a Reagan Era Republican.

So let’s look back and see what the person with an (R) after his name has done to help Wyomingites with his actions:

The infamous SF104 vote. In 2013 he voted to strip the Superintendent of Public Instruction (SOPI) of all duties, except five. Then appointed a former senator from Arizona, who happened to be an Arizona neighbor of a Wyoming senator who was on the Joint Education Committee. The committee Northrup was on.

When Republicans in Park County called out our elected to answer for SF104, Northrup put his tail between his legs and did whatever his Wyoming senator told him to do or not do.

Yet, in 2022 he put his name in for consideration for a vacancy in the position, didn’t get selected, and then sued the state of Wyoming, the state GOP chairman and central committee two days later.

In 2019, he was exposed for being in favor of radical gun control. Specifically, three-day waiting periods for gun purchases. His response to me was he was naïve about such matters.

While in office he voted to raise registration fees and taxes on trailers, because it’s rubber on the road and trailers don’t use purchased fuel. Well, I explained to him when a truck goes in front of the trailer extra purchased fuel is used to pull the trailer and that fuel isn’t free. His response, “Hmm I didn’t think about it that way.”

In his last year in office 2020 he got a 30% Republican vote from WyoRino. He scored lower than some Dems. But he’s the Reagan Era Republican!

He may call Republicans who follow the Republican Party platform, TEA Party types, and that the GOP has been taken over by TEA Party interests. However, it appears the Frontier Republicans and the Lincoln Project have latched onto another lackey to run for office. And for goodness sakes the TEA Party in the Big Horn Basin hasn’t existed in years.

Now Northrup accuses the Park County GOP leadership of being from out of state. Really? In the world of David Northrup when does a person in Park County attain residency or long-time resident status (five, 10, 20, 30 years)? Each and every person on that committee owns land, pays taxes, votes, and breathes in Park County. Yes, pays taxes, not like yourself, delinquent again huh!

So, if we take the Northrup approach if you weren’t born in Wyoming you don’t rate to hold office, vote, or have an opinion on matters affecting the very community you live in. According to the Northrup mindset the real “native” Wyomingites will make the decisions for us. However, you can still pay your taxes just for the honor of living in Wyoming.
