Powell Swim Club posts good times

Summer State swim competition slated this weekend in Gillette

Six swimmers from the Powell Swim Club competed in Buffalo at the Kate Holt Memorial Swim Meet July 8-9. It was the last meet before the Summer State competition, which starts on Friday in Gillette. As a team, Powell finished eighth out of 16 teams with 176 points.

Kaitlyn Diver swam in the female 9-10 age group, posting times in six events. Her most improved event was the 200 freestyle, where she took off 30.87 seconds off to finish seventh in 5:21.14. Kaitlyn Diver’s second-best improvement came in the 100 breaststroke, cutting 16.83 seconds for a time of 2:36.81 and a fifth-place finish. She also took 5.15 seconds off the 50 breaststroke for a 10th in 1:07.71 and 2.94 seconds off the 50 freestyle for a 59.4 second, 19th-place finish. Kaitlyn Diver also swam to 11th in the 100 freestyle in 2:27.46 and 16th in the 50 backstroke in 1:19.90.

Koubus Diver competed in the 11-12 male category, swimming seven events and cutting time in five of them. Koubus Diver shaved 7.03 seconds off the 100 breaststroke (finishing sixth in 2:10.50), 4.28 seconds the 100 backstroke (taking 10th in 2:17.14), 3.18 seconds in the 200 freestyle (for a time of 3:45.33 and a fifth place finish), cut 2.66 seconds off the 50 breaststroke (for an eighth place finish in 1:01.82) and 2.59 seconds off in the 50 freestyle for a 42.59 second, 10th-place finish.

Koubus Diver took 10th in the 100 freestyle in 1:43.39 and 12th in the 50 backstroke in 1:00.93.

Aiden Greenwald swam seven events in the male 11-12 age group. His greatest improvement came in the 100 breaststroke, cutting 9.21 seconds for a seventh place finish in 2:10.72. Aiden Greenwald also improved his time in the 50 backstroke for a seventh place finish in 49.71, an improvement of 1.53 seconds. His other events included fourth place in the 200 freestyle (3:39.37), sixth place in the 100 backstroke (1:55.90), eighth in the 100 freestyle in 1:34.94 and he finished ninth in both the 20 freestyle and 50 breaststroke, posting times of 42.22 and 1:02.65, respectively.

Kaylen Greenwald, meanwhile, finished in the top three in all six of her events in the female 8 and under age group. She improved the most in the 100 breastroke, cutting 14.94 seconds for a second-place finish in 2:40.25. Kaylen Greenwald also improved in the 50 breaststroke by 0.10 seconds to win in 1:13.98. She also finished first in the 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle with times of 53.75 seconds and 5:01.30, respectively. Kaylen Greenwald also took third in the 50 backstroke (1:07.46) and the 100 freestyle (2:25.51).

Nathan Johnston swam in eight events, posting top four finishes in the male 13-14 category. Johnston posted improvements in three events, which included cutting 4.95 seconds in the 200 freestyle (taking second place in 2:43.09), 2.21 seconds in the 50 freestyle (for a fourth-place finish in 31.65) and shaved 1.99 seconds in the 100 freestyle, with a time of 1:12.26.

Johnston also won three events: the 100 butterfly in 1:30.35, the 200 breaststroke in 3:17.40 and the 800 freestyle in 12:07.26. He finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 3:04.41 and fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:33.69.

Josh Wright completed the 13-14 male category swimming in eight events, cutting 1:17.72 off his time in the 800 freestyle for a second-place finish in 13:15.19. Wright emerged on top in the 200 backstroke with a time of 3:14.21 and finished second in both the 400 IM and 100 backstroke with times of 7:13.32 and 1:28.21, respectively. In the 400 freestyle, Josh Wright finished third with a time of 6:33.70.

Wright also earned fifth place in both the 50 freestyle (with a time of 34.19 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (with a time of 1:15.77) while finishing seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:44.10.

At this week’s Summer State competition, the Powell Swim Club will have seven swimmers attending: Wright, Kaylen Greenwald, Aiden Greenwald, Johnston, Karee Cooley, Kinley Cooley and Kacey Creed.
