The Powell Pioneers B team’s last week featured high highs and low lows.
The Legion Baseball squad picked up wins (8-5, 11-4) against the Cody Cubs on June 15, before falling 14-0 and 12-1 against Sheridan on Monday. On Tuesday, Powell split a doubleheader with Cody, losing the first game 13-6 and winning the second one 7-3.
The Pioneers are now 12-12.
In game one against Cody on June 15, the Pioneers mounted a sixth-inning comeback, crossing the plate six times in the frame. Rayce DeGraffenreid was the offensive leader in the game, notching three hits.
And in game two, Powell scored in each of the first four innings, giving the team an early advantage. By the time Cody scored its first run — in the sixth inning — the Pioneers’ lead was too large and they clinched the sweep. Powell’s Aiden Greenwald was the winning pitcher, allowing just four hits in six innings of work.
Against Sheridan, the Pioneers struggled to find offensive production, scoring just once in Monday’s doubleheader. The team also committed five errors in game two.
In the third doubleheader, played on Tuesday, an eight-run first inning for Cody proved costly for the Pioneers, as the Cubs won by seven. But in game two, the Pioneers rallied, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to clinch a 7-3 win. Dalton Worstell led the way with three RBIs in that game.
Starting Thursday, the Pioneers B team plays a tournament in Casper.
