Aided by more than a dozen personal bests, the Powell High School swimming and diving team beat Cody by a 106-74 score during a Tuesday, Sept. 24, dual on the road.

“The Cody swim team is markedly improved this year,” said PHS head coach Bob Smartt. “They had no significant graduations in June, and Ally Boysen is one of the top freshmen in the state.”

The Lady Panthers were led by double-event winner Anna Fuller, who took the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events. Single event winners included Addison Moretti (200 freestyle), Elizabeth Liggett (200 IM) and Emma Karhu (diving). Eleven Powell athletes achieved a total of 18 state qualifying marks.

Grace Harder and Gabby Paterson expanded their list of state qualifying events from two to four: Harder in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, and Paterson in the 100 and 200 freestyle.

Other athletes who had two state performances at the meet include Sidney O’Brien (200 IM and 100 backstroke) and Lucia Harder (100 freestyle and 100 backstroke).

“The Panthers achieved 14 personal best performances,” Smartt said. “Athletes with personal bests in two individual events were Emma Mitchell in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke and Grace Harder and Gabby Paterson.”

The Lady Panthers are scheduled to log some serious bus time this weekend, with a dual meet scheduled for Friday in Riverton and the Pinedale Invitational on Saturday.

“The Pinedale meet will be an important priority meet for the team,” Smartt said.
