Peace Corps recruiter to give virtual presentation

Tilyian Phannenstiel, a returned Peace Corps volunteer and recruiter, is hosting a virtual presentation with the Powell Library about her experiences living and working abroad as a community economic development volunteer in Costa Rica.

The presentation will be held over Zoom from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Phannenstiel will talk about her projects, experiences and the Costa Rican culture, followed by a Q&A session about her experiences in the Peace Corps and the application process.

Phannenstiel spent two years serving in Fila Naranjo, a small coffee farming community located near the Panama border. Her project was to help a women’s group in the Fila Naranjo community turn an undeveloped farm into a rural tourism site. One of Phannenstiel’s many accomplishments was winning a $5,000 grant for the women’s group which was used to provide staff training and to build a cabin for out-of-area tourists. She also led a female empowerment and leadership camp for high school students in the town of Sabalito, Costa Rica.

Phannenstiel is now working as a Peace Corps Recruiter for the Colorado-Wyoming area. To learn more about her adventures in Costa Rica, view her blog at www.tilyianmorrin.wordpress.com.

Visit the Powell Library Facebook page or email Brittany Morton at bmorton@parkcountylibrary.org to receive a registration link for the Zoom presentation; the event is free and open to the public.
