The Class 1A Husky boys were gritty but out-gunned by 3A Powell in Burlington on Tuesday night.
The Panthers, up five at the first break and 11 by halftime, were never threatened the rest of the way in a 69-50 victory.
The Huskies held a brief 9-8 lead at 3:20 of the first, but a pair of makes from the line by Mason Marchant at 2:51 made it 10-9 Panthers. Powell led the rest of the way to the final buzzer.
Marchant finished with 24 points on 10 2-pointers and going 4-for-4 at the line to lead all scorers. Landon Lengfelder added 14 to Powell’s cause.
The Huskies’ leading point-getter, freshman Brian McNiven, netted 10.
Powell’s points came on 23 makes from two, a pair of threes and 17-for-23 free throw shooting.
Scoring production for the Huskies included 15 2-pointers, a trio of treys and 11 makes among 16 attempts at the free throw line.
The Panthers’ record now stands 8-6 on the season going into Friday’s 7 p.m. home encounter with the Bobcats from Thermopolis.
