The Powell High School boys’ hoops team defeated Thermopolis at home Friday, 57-50, then lost 75-48 on the road Saturday at Worland.

The win over the Bobcats of Thermop began with a 16-10 Powell lead after one period of play.

Mason Marchant drained a three, Landon Lengfelder tossed in his own 3-pointer and at halftime it was Panthers by seven, 27-20.

The Panthers pushed the lead to 10 points at the end of the third, 42-32. A fourth quarter in which the Bobcats hit 18 points to Powell’s 15 was good enough to preserve the seven-point victory.

The Panthers converted 8-of-13 chances at the line.

Marchant topped the Powell scoring column with 25 points, with 17 beside Lengfelder’s name; the two went a combined 7-for-19 from 3-point range. Jesse Brown made it three Panthers in double figures by adding 10 points.

On the glass Powell profited by an even dozen rebounds from Marchant, making it another double-double night for the smooth junior. Adrian Geller and Brown were credited with six and eight boards, respectively. Geller and Brown earned four and three assists, Marchant got four steals and Gellar three.

Against Worland on Saturday, Lengfelder and Aiden Jacobsen hit double digits for the Panthers. Lengfelder accounted for an even dozen including the Panthers’ lone 3-pointer. Jacobsen added 10.

The team shot 15-36 (42 percent) from two and went 15-25 (60 percent) at the line. Lengfelder, Brown and Marchant pulled down seven, six and six rebounds for 19 of the Panthers’ 28 boards.

The Panthers (9-7) will head to Lander on Friday and Saturday. They’ll face the hosting Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday and spend the night in Lander. Then on Saturday, they’ll face Pinedale at 12:30 p.m. and Big Piney at 3:30 p.m. in a pair of rescheduled games.
