The Panther swimmers and divers landed second among an eight-team field in Lander at the Bruce Gresly Invitational on Saturday.
“We had a pretty good meet,” reported coach Stephanie Warren. “Out of our 16 qualifiers, each one had at least one personal record in the meet either in swimming or diving. That is good to see this time of year. Some added more qualifying events.”
Tarren Blackmore, Cole Frank and Bryce Hogen added the 100 breaststroke to their qualifications, Rui Parker and Francis Rogers picked up the 100 butterfly and Josh Wright qualified in the 500 freestyle, all setting their season bests in the process.
The Panthers posted several top three finishes.
Richard Spann won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.81 seconds (a 0.25 second improvement), while Parker took the bronze in 1:02.72.
“Back was a good event for Powell,” coach Warren noted.
Meanwhile, Nate Johnston was the runner up in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.51 (a 0.39 second improvement); Spann, Johnston, Jay Cox and Blackmore took third in the 200 medley relay (1:49.46); and Hogen took third in diving, amassing 329.45 points in the season’s first 11 dives competition.
Other personal bests, listed by event, included:
The Panthers return to the water today (Tuesday), as they head to Worland for a 4:30 p.m. triangular with the Warriors and Cody. The squad will then be off until hosting the conference meet on Feb. 7-8.
