Bad weather has derailed much of the spring golf season for the Panther boys’ golf team, but the sky finally cleared as a short trip to Cody allowed the team to hit the fairways again on Friday.

Leading the way for the Panthers was junior Seth Siebert, who placed No. 14 out of a large field of 50 athletes.

Siebert finished with a 98, and Panthers Golf Coach Troy Hildebrand said that he is playing more consistently than in the fall and is doing a good job of limiting his big numbers during play.

“He is still about six to eight shots above what he expects of himself but as the weather improves and he is able to spend more time on the course I expect his scores to continue to drop,” Hildebrand said.

Just behind Siebert was sophomore Trey Scott who finished with a 102. Hildebrand said Scott played a solid round, but was unable to create any momentum to push him below 100 on the day.

Sophomore Andrew Jones came into the clubhouse with the third lowest score, as he finished with a 103.

Hildebrand said Jones got off to a poor start. He was able to recover for stretches but not shoot to his ability.

“Andrews [Jones] finished the fall on a really high note and he is definitely committed to playing a lot this summer and I know he expects a lot of himself next fall,” Hildebrand said. “His game is right there and with more rounds and better practice conditions he will make quick progress towards his goals.”

Coming in fourth for the Panthers was sophomore Rydr Keefer, playing in his first competitive round of golf.

Hildebrand said he did a great job of getting around and keeping the ball in play. He also said Keefer has made progress over the past couple seasons and Hildebrand was happy to get Keefer into his first ever competitive round.

“His success next fall will have a lot to do with how much he is able to put into his game this summer,” Hildebrand said. 

Rounding out the team was sophomore Trey Peterson playing in his second competitive round.

Hildebrand said that Peterson has continued to improve much like the previous two years, and should continue to improve his play over the summer.

The spring season wraps up for the Panthers as the team heads to Lander on Friday for one final tournament before heading into the summer.
