Panther cheer and dance teams compete at state

Posted

Both the Powell High School cheerleading and dance teams competed at the State Spirit Competition in Casper last week.

In the jazz dance competition on Thursday, Powell’s dance team finished in second place in Class 3A, with 93.833 points.

As for the Panther cheerleaders, they placed fourth in 3A’s game day division, posting 84.45 points. And PHS earned 67.5 points in co-ed cheer, for a fourth-place finish.

The State Spirit Competition is typically held in March, in conjunction with the state basketball tournaments, but the plans were changed this year amid the pandemic. Under a variance from the Wyoming Department of Health, each participant was allowed to have two spectators attend last week’s competition at the Ford Wyoming Center (formerly the Casper Events Center).

The Tribune will have more extensive coverage of the 2020-21 PHS cheer and dance teams and their performances at state in the coming issues.
