Paint the Town Red this weekend in Powell

Powell will be awash in red this weekend as residents join Northwest College students at Paint the Town Red festivities.

The fun begins at 4 p.m. Friday and continues through midnight in downtown Powell, with live music, food, activities for kids, basketball contests, a scavenger hunt, free late night movies, street dance and more.

Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend the third annual event to welcome NWC students to downtown Powell. Prizes will be given to the first 200 people to arrive wearing red.

The Paint the Town Red concert features country artist Conor Clemmons, who received the Indieville 2016 Male Solo Artist of the Year award. Local artist Josh Westerhold will open for Clemmons.

Just down the street from the Paint the Town Red festivities, at the East 2nd Street Gallery, artist Lyn Mortensen of Cowley will be demonstrating different techniques and hosting an art show from noon to 6 p.m. Mortensen is the owner of Wild Daisy Art. She’s inviting community members to try their hand at painting and add their own touches to a colorful community poster.

Then on Saturday morning, residents can join students on the annual Heart of a Trapper Hike. The trek to the top of Heart Mountain begins at 8 a.m., and details are available at nwc.edu/heart.

For a full schedule of events, visit nwc.edu/red.
