Dear editor:
Now that the country has elected Trump, and Wyoming has voted to amend its constitution regarding real estate taxes, it would be very appropriate to decrease ALL Wyoming residential real estate taxes back to pre-Covid rates. Maybe THEN increase them by 2%-3% per year per inflation, not 25%-30% which happened, forcing many residents either out of their homes or facing financial hardships.
Most of us budget ourselves to be able to afford what we’ve acquired or hope to acquire, but exorbitant taxes have wiped out our best laid plans, especially those of us who are now in retirement years. Trump will undoubtedly return to drilling oil and hopefully reinstate coal energy. Consequently, the energy sector will be able to help fund the shortfall that will ensue from less residential real estate taxes. Better yet, maybe all Wyoming government entities should work on paring down their budgets to live within their means like their citizens try to do.
