Norma Rose Zierolf better know as “Mama Z” of the Big Horn Basin, died at the age 85. The angels took her home to be with her Lord after many months of failing health on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019.

She was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Fremont, Ohio. She and her family moved to Greybull in 1972. She had a desire to create great food so she opened Mama Z’s in 1976. She became well known for warm hospitality, great pizza and sauerkraut balls.

She knew no strangers. Norma was the loving mother of eight loving children, 21 awesome grandchildren, and 14 wonderful great-grandchildren, along with numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her devotion to her family, Norma had an absolute zest for life. She always had an aspiration for adventure from competing in a demolition derby, to dancing the night away, winning a May Queen contest or simply being with family and friends. She always encouraged people to live life to the fullest with no regrets.

Services will be at the First Baptist Church in Basin on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m., with a gathering at Doug Zierolf’s home at 861 South Hwy 20, also in Basin. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration of her life and share their favorite stories.
