Neighbors helped avert disaster

Dear Editor:

This is not as timely as I had intended, but we are no less grateful just the same.

In July when the big rain came and several folks south of town had homes flooded, I witnessed first-hand why I love this place so much.

My wife and I were frantically trying to stem the flow of water coming into the basement — getting extra sump pumps going, along with wet vacs, and just trying to keep up with the deluge.

Our neighbors, the Elzeys, came over and spent half the night with us helping. My daughter Hannah sent me a text with a phone number of someone offering a pump. I called the number and Michael from Big Horn Insulation on Lane 11H answered. He came by at about 10 o’clock and sized up our situation. He told me he had a pump that would probably help out. He retrieved it and set it up but we were short on power. He went back to his shop and got a trailer with additional equipment. Mike and that pump helped to keep a bad situation from becoming a disaster.

When I offered to pay him he said he had the equipment and it wasn’t being used so he thought he would offer it up to help someone out.

God bless Big Horn Insulation and God bless Powell.
